cat approved, smells good, no digestive issues, good poops, etc

Great for my 3 indoor cats of various ages. They all seem to thrive very well on Iams brand. My vet approves this choice for them. I don’t rate on price, and I don’t even make cat food choice based on choice. I’ve tried way pricier boutique wet and dry food, but my cats prefer this. Been using Iams for 20+ years, and I simply go with what seems to work. Big bag lasts us awhile, and seems to stay fresh and smelling good throughout.Light beige kibble with a medium brown colored kibble. Small but not tiny. Slightly flat. I think it smells good, but I personally haven’t tried it. Since my cats seem pleased, I will just say that it must be good enough. I HAVE on occasion tried other dry food, and they always prefer this. They also prefer Friskies wet food over way pricier stuff, so take that for what it is worth. Even so, I have had cats be totally healthy well into their late teens on a steady diet of Iams and Friskies.

My Cat Seems To Have No Problem With It

Not sure about the flavor because I haven’t tried it. My cat seems to like it ok though. But I have to give her less than even the recommended diet amount or else she keeps putting on weight. Of course she also sneaks in a mouse or a rabbit now and then.

My cats do well on Iams dry cat food!

So we started using Iams about 2 bags ago (largest bags). Since then, the cats’ poop is way less stinky and less of it, so is their pee. They also stopped throwing up except for maybe 1 cat about 2 times whereas my cats used to throw up a few times a week on the cheaper dry food. The cats like this one but I think they liked the orange bag better. I bought 3 different flavors to figure out what they like best. This is bag 2 so it will be a while before I get to try out bag 3. I know this is expensive but I used to go though a lot more dry cat food each month (40 pounds rather than 22 pounds). So I don’t feel bad cost wise with the higher price because I am using a lot less. Better value.

    A Must for Feline Foodies!

I can’t say enough about how much my cat adores this food! From the moment I cracked open the bag, I knew we were onto something special. The aroma alone had my kitty circling around me with eager anticipation. What truly sets this brand apart is the quality of the ingredients. As a responsible pet owner, I prioritize nutrition, and this food delivers on all fronts. It’s packed with all the essential nutrients to keep my kitty healthy and happy. So if you’re searching for a cat food that not only satisfies your pet’s taste buds but also nourishes them from the inside out, look no further. Trust me, your cat will thank you for it!

    Agrees with our cat’s stomach

This review is for IAMS PROACTIVE HEALTH Adult Indoor Weight Control & Hairball Care Dry Cat Food. Our indoor cat was getting too fat. Portion control only goes so far. I mean, when she is hungry, she’s got to eat. And, she mostly eats late at night. So we have to get up and feed her additional food. Not an ideal situation. We are now mixing half of this food with half of her regular brand.Benefits are, she is eating less. And her poop doesn’t smell as bad which is an unexpected and welcome benefit. We are no longer as concerned about her weight gain at this time since she seems to be happier and self regulating.

    Cats love it!

I have 3 cats and I usually get them the chicken flavor but I like to switch it up on them so they don’t get bored and they loved it. As soon as they smell it they’re at their bowls. I definitely recommend switching your cats food if your feeding meow mix. It’s fresher and better quality. My girls have had a complete change with their energy levels, their skin coats, their mood, and definitely helps with hairballs.

Switched from a different brand to this one because my cats really enjoy it. It seems healthy too, as the coloring doesn’t seem to be too artificial. We buy it in the larger bags as it makes it a better deal, since it’s not exactly the most affordable food.I’d recommend it!

It’s a great cat food, so from this Veterinarian to bad reviews – (gradual introduction and more

Dr. Kate – DVM vet here. I was looking through some of the bad reviews (very minimal compared to great reviews) of this IAMS cat food. I understand that some of had problems with this particular food with your cats – a lot of vomiting, refusal to eat, diarrhea, and so forth – I’m sorry to hear that. But notice over 35 thousand people give this food 5 stars. Including me. And I am a vet. There are a lot of scenarios regarding changing cat foods. First of all, never just change food cold turkey – its the 1-2 week blend rule. I recommend checking with your vet first regardless, and then you start by only introducing a tiny amount (maybe 1/10th of new food mixed in with the food they are used to) . Every two days or so add another 1/10th, or so – and change the ratio a tiny bit. Even at 1 week, being half and half by then is best and many vets think that is even pretty aggressive. Take the whole second week to get new food to 60%, then 70% etc. Until you reach the new food at 100%. {Personally I take 3-4 weeks for the whole transition. It’s absolutely critical to do this. Dogs and cats have VERY sensitive stomachs and if they have a new food right off the bat overnight – you can almost guarantee they will have vomiting and diarrhea and cramps and be in pain. And, because their tummy feels so horrible as a result – of course they won’t want to go near that food again. I wouldn’t – would you? Also, it’s VERY important to brush animals regularly – particularly indoor cats. My Lani cat – a wonderful rescue – loves her brushings – I keep her brush under the side table near couch and I sit down in eve to watch the news at end of day – she jumps in my lap and looks at the brush. The brush has those tiny gentle metal bristles that really catches all the loose soft fluffy loose and even semi loose hair – so therefore in her self – grooming/ licking of her coat – which they do all the time! She does not swallow (at least very very little) hair. She has never had a hairball to my knowledge. I brush her about 4 times a week. I’ve seen poor kitties retching to try to get their hairballs up and they can be dangerous and even require surgery if severe and big enough that the cat cannot pass them through stools. Again – brush cats as often as possible. Dogs, too. The other very real possibility – if you’ve introduced a new food very slowly – say over two weeks – and the cat is still ill from it – that there may be an ingredient your cat is allergic to. Similar to say a gluten allergy. Animals have allergies, too. If 35 thousand people really like this cat food – rather their cats do, my girl thrives on it – I trust it and I’ve reviewed the ingredients. For me the proof is in the pudding. And with gradual introduction. Hope that helps someone. – Dr. Kate – DVM

    Feline Approved!!

I recently started feeding my cat the IAMS PROACTIVE HEALTH Adult Indoor Weight Control & Hairball Care Dry Cat Food with Chicken & Turkey, and let me tell you, my cat is absolutely obsessed with it!My furry friend has always been a bit of a troublemaker when it comes to his food. He would often try to break into the closet where his food was stored, leaving scratch marks and bite marks all over the door. However, since we switched to this particular IAMS formula, his behavior has become even more determined. He simply can’t get enough of this delicious cat food! Not only does this cat food have a mouthwatering aroma that entices my cat every time I open the bag, but it also has a fantastic taste that keeps him coming back for more. The combination of chicken and turkey provides a savory flavor that my cat finds irresistible. I’ve noticed that he eagerly finishes every last kibble in his bowl, and his enthusiasm for mealtime has skyrocketed. One of the biggest concerns I had before switching to this cat food was hairballs. As an indoor cat, my feline companion tends to groom himself excessively, leading to hairballs. However, the IAMS PROACTIVE HEALTH formula has been a game-changer in that regard. It contains ingredients specifically designed to help manage hairballs, and I’ve noticed a significant reduction in the frequency of hairball-related issues since starting this diet.Furthermore, I appreciate that this cat food is formulated to support weight control in indoor cats. It contains a balanced blend of nutrients to help maintain a healthy weight, which is crucial for indoor cats who may be less active than their outdoor counterparts. With this food, I can feel confident that I’m providing my cat with the nutrition he needs while managing his weight effectively.Overall, the IAMS PROACTIVE HEALTH Adult Indoor Weight Control & Hairball Care Dry Cat Food with Chicken & Turkey has exceeded my expectations. Not only does my cat go crazy for it, but it also addresses his specific dietary needs, including hairball control and weight management. I highly recommend this cat food to all cat owners looking for a tasty and nutritionally balanced option for their feline friends.

    Great nutritional value

I fed my cats Purina Pro Plan for years, but had to switch them to a lower-calorie food because they were a little overweight. The vet tech at the time recommended Iams, so we transitioned them over. They love it, and after feeding it to them for over a year now we’ve noticed a few things. One. They’ve all lost weight and are now in a healthy range. Two. They’re coats are noticeably softer. Three. They seem to have more energy.I hope they’ll eat this for the rest of their lives, because it’s affordable and clearly good for them.

    Vet Recommended, Cat Approved

My vet recommended Iams for my cat. My local stores no longer carry the 3.3 pound bags or they do at an outrageous price. The reason for the small bag, is that once the seal is broken and the nitrogen is replaced with oxygen in the bag, the nutrients begin to degrade. We had a lot of deficiency issues with my indoor cat, because I was buying large bags and she only eats 3.3 pounds a month. We switched to smaller bags and it solved the problem. I’m now ordering the proper size online and can now swap her back and forth between chicken and beef, which wasn’t previously available in store for us. She loves the food! And between the swap from Meow Mix to Iams and using smaller bags over the last year, she no longer suffers deficiencies and now has an almost kitten soft coat at 9 years old. I highly recommend Iams! It’s made a huge difference in my cat’s overall health.

As a cat owner, I am always looking for high-quality cat food that will keep my furry friend healthy and happy. IAMS PROACTIVE HEALTH is definitely a winner in my book! First of all, my cat absolutely loves the taste. I’ve tried other weight control formulas in the past, but my cat often turned his nose up at them. With IAMS, he eagerly gobbles up every bite. But it’s not just the taste that’s great – this cat food is also packed with all the nutrients my indoor cat needs to stay healthy. I love that it helps control hairballs, which is always a concern with a long-haired cat like mine.

    Tasty and helpful

Our older cat can be fairly picky about food. She really enjoys this one and as a fluffy cat she tends to get hairballs regularly. We have noticed a decrease in the number of hairballs so I hope this is allowing her to pass the hair through her system. She’s an older cat that has bursts of running but for the most part is happy lazying about. She has not put on weight eating this cat food.

    I’m supposed to eat it?

Flavor? What, you want me to eat cat food? 3-4 different brands of cat food to get a feel for what is good and what isn’t? Sorry, I’m retired but Social Security doesn’t suck that much yet. My cat likes it, good enough for me. For that matter, I’ve been feeding my cats this stuff for 25 years now, not a single one hasn’t finished their bowl (ok, I had brothers once. Frick ate when he was hungry Frack ate when there was food. That was a challenge. But not related to the specific brand of cat food). Giving it 3 stars because, let’s be honest, when people are hungry enough they’ll eat each other (ref: Donne partyr, soccer team airplane crash), so even though my cats chow down when fed I’m not going to assume it’s not because those fat asses aren’t starving.Scent? It’s cat food. I’m a straight guy that can’t tell cream from ivory, they’re both white. You mean not telling colors apart has nothing to do with smelling? I’ve been told more than once my pits stunk when I thought I was good, so don’t go there. Not to mention, I don’t sniff my cat food like a $200 glass of wine.Value for the money? 5 stars, even though I’m gonna have to throw half this huge bag of food away because it’s going to spoil before I feed it all to my cat. My bad. Reminds me 20 years ago when the wife tried ordering groceries online. She thought 8 oz of salmon was plenty for both of us. She never ordered online again. Me? I learn from my lessons and will make damned sure I go the Vons, look at the weight of what I used to buy, then look at the weight of what I’m ordering. Then again, this huge package, of which I’m going to throw half away, was price competitive with what Vons was charging me for my normal package.
